Statement on the StopG20 Protest

October 9, 2018 SocialistAu 0

1. The G20 is part of the global offensive responsible for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, sustaining world poverty, undermining labour rights and accelerating climate change. The immense harm their policies inflict on our planet and its people put cosmetic damage to one police truck at the 18 November StopG20 rally in Melbourne in perspective. These criminals – and their media allies – attempt to hide their culpability by creating hysteria about protester violence. Their aim is to discredit all militant protest action and, by extension, the legitimate concerns expressed by demonstrators. Criminalising protest will be an important weapon for […]

SYDNEY UNIVERSITY management have made an interim pay offer of 4 percent. The offer came through the afternoon before an NTEU members meeting which was planning to discuss possible industrial action unless the University started to negotiate seriously. The offer, to be followed by “a substantial additional offer”, was not accepted by the members meeting. It was conditional on the NTEU agreeing to industrial peace until 1 May next year and would allow the University to drag out negotiations on conditions. Many members were concerned that there was no detail of funding for the offer. With work unit budgets are […]

New GG – blood-stained general

His citation boasts of “the heavy losses inflicted on the enemy” during his time there. He later commanded the elite SAS for […]

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – They’ve won. They got their war against Afghanistan (planned before September 11). They’re getting their war against Iraq (planned slightly after September 11). After Iraq, they plan to get their wars against Syria, Lebanon, Iran and Saudi Arabia. Last Sunday, one of them, Vice President Dick Cheney, said that President George W Bush would have to make “a very difficult decision” on Iraq. Not really. The decision had already been taken for him in the autumn of 2001. As far as their “showdown Iraq” is concerned, it’s not about weapons of mass destruction, nor United Nations inspections, […]
